Job Description:
The Wall Street Journal is looking for an energetic, experienced and ambitious journalist to lead its coverage of Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.
As the bureau chief in Mexico City, you will be responsible for managing news out of Mexico, the second largest trading partner to the United States. You will also oversee the surrounding region, in which countries are undergoing a range of economic and political shifts, from the increasingly authoritarian bent of the government in Nicaragua to the deepening crisis facing one of the world’s last Communist regimes in Cuba.
We are looking for a skilled writer and correspondent who will lead from the front, covering major stories while also guiding a team of talented reporters.
You will:
Be responsible for explaining complex, border-spanning issues such as immigration and drug trafficking, as well as constantly evolving relations between Washington and Mexico.
Oversee a team of five reporters.
Work closely with colleagues elsewhere, especially in South America and Canada, and on the U.S. News and Washington teams.
You have:
A global view and the ability to coordinate and inspire coverage of Mexico and the rest of the region in a broad global context.
A high news metabolism and sound judgment, as well as experience producing in-depth enterprise work.
Fluency in Spanish.
The position will be based in Mexico City and report to World Coverage Chief Gordon Fairclough.
