The Wall Street Journal is seeking an editorial director of features and series for its global audio team. In this role you will be responsible for executing the vision of the head of audio and lead executive producers, supervising producers, producers/reporters and audio engineers in the features and series team.
We are a growing audio unit that works with many areas of the WSJ newsroom to produce quality, factual, news-driven podcasts on topics that range from business, personal finance and economics to tech and science. We have a solid core listenership, which we’re looking to expand and deepen. In collaboration with the head of audio, the editorial director will create, develop and launch new weekly features and deeply reported narrative podcasts. With a deep understanding of the subscriber audience and the organization’s potential non-subscriber reach, the editorial director role sits at the intersection of editorial, product and strategy.
Top candidates for this role will have excellent editorial judgment, strong production experience and team-management skills. Leadership, decisiveness and clear communication are critical for this position. We are seeking someone with strong production experience and a track record of pitching, developing and elevating original audio series.
This position will be based in our New York City office and reports to the Head of Audio.

Collaborate with the head of audio to oversee WSJ’s features and series podcast portfolio, help steer the editorial and creative vision, as well as, lead and empower production teams to do their best work under tight deadlines.
Partner with the newsroom’s editorial leaders to identify opportunities for coverage and generate new story ideas.
Serve as a key contact in editorial planning meetings to identify distinct, longer-lead story angles that are additive to written text or able to stand alone.
Empower audio leadership to be creative and drive them and their teams to meet productivity expectations.
Provide clear and constructive notes and timely feedback on scripts and edits.
Work with teams to push creative boundaries and develop new, innovative storytelling opportunities.
Represent and advance the strategic priorities identified by the head of audio while developing new, streamlined workflows to improve productivity and output for the team.
Ensure all audio content meets the highest production value and all WSJ journalistic and legal standards.
Complete additional duties as assigned, including supporting other WSJ podcast productions in New York and London.
At least 10 years of experience in audio storytelling at a successful podcast or radio program.
Experience leading and managing large teams in a deadline-driven environment.
Clear communication and exceptional collaboration skills.
Professional experience writing, reviewing and elevating scripts and communicating constructive feedback to other team members.
A track record of translating complex business, economics and tech stories into reporting that informs WSJ subscribers and appeals to broader audiences.
A deep understanding of current events and global politics, as well as a nose for news.
