Dow Jones Fashion Market Editor in NEW YORK, New York

Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is looking for an enthusiastic fashion market editor to work within the fashion team of Off Duty, a lifestyle service section that appears in the Weekend print edition and on all digital platforms.

You will work closely with the team to develop women's, men's and accessories stories that help readers understand trends and solve lifestyle problems in a smart, journalistic way. You will also identify, call in and photograph relevant items of clothing and accessories or hi-res photography. Experience in service-oriented story ideation and production is a plus.

You should have at least 3 years experience in both print and digital fashion journalism and/or market. You must be organized, meticulous and able to juggle the demands of multiple projects at once.

You will:

  • Formulate stories in line with Off Duty's service-oriented agenda and meet the journalistic and ethical standards of The Wall Street Journal.

  • Cover the broad range of fashion market, going on industry appointments and attending fashion shows as needed to ensure that you are fully on top of the beat.

  • Build a strong relationship with fashion brands and seek out new and interesting designers to ensure Off Duty's style coverage remains current and on the pulse.

  • Manage all fashion elements of the photo studio, guiding and approving photography, styling and managing all wardrobe coming in and out of the office.

  • Serve as the liaison between editors, art, photo and digital departments, contributing to the planning of digital presentations, optimizing stories for SEO and overall user experience, and tracking your stories' digital performance.

  • Serve as the point person for all story planning and schedule organization matters.

You have:

  • A thorough grasp of fashion trends and a sophisticated taste level and visual sense.

  • Original packaging and conceptual instincts; strong story-building skills; a sharp sense of humor.

  • The ability to present high-fashion concepts as well as wearable, accessible market.

  • Digital savvy. Experience crafting social-media strategies and SEO-friendly display is a plus.

  • An independently motivated work ethic—ensuring you are staying on top of internal and external demands: attending market appointments, managing the production process of multiple stories each week and acting as a clear and organized liaison for the photo and design teams as well as writers and copy editors.
