The Wall Street Journal is looking for a detail-oriented operations manager to join our Live Journalism team. This position will play a critical role in the organization of our virtual and hybrid events programmed by the newsroom.
Live Journalism at the Journal connects our readers with a diverse slate of top industry leaders, thinkers and newsmakers, while igniting conversation across communities online. We currently find ourselves in a period of growth and transformation for WSJ Live Journalism, as the team has moved from producing in-person conferences and festivals to a full calendar of hybrid events.
The ideal candidate for this position will be a key component in coordinating our operations, communicating across news bureaus and business teams, publishing our videos to WSJ.com, and recruiting and managing our freelance staff.
This position reports to the Head of Live Journalism and Special Content and is based in our New York office.
Oversee relationships with vendors and freelancers, manage expense budgets, and future-proof the department by planning system and workflow improvements.
Supervise management and publishing of interview segments to WSJ.com
Recruit and onboard freelancers and other vendors.
Ensure all invoices are paid in a timely manner.
Coordinate with the events team to gather the logistics information necessary for newsroom editors and reporters to participate at live events.
Collect and report analytics from live journalism event coverage.
Manage live journalism calendar and assure communication between key stakeholders.
Oversee coordination with the video control room, social media and platform teams on live streams to various Journal platforms.
Copy edit newsroom material for live events including agendas, video headlines and descriptions, and other content.
Expert skills in video production.
Experience working with freelancers and other vendors.
The ability to work flexible hours, under tight deadline pressure, including breaking news.
Impeccable organization skills and assurance of accuracy in your work
A passion for problem solving and a positive attitude when obstacles arise.
Ideally, experience working in a newsroom and/or in a live event environment.
