Job Description:
The Wall Street Journal is looking for an experienced Photoshop Specialist to join our award-winning design and photo team. You will provide color correction and image support across all of our platforms including all daily and weekly sections of our print editions.You will need to work quickly within a small group and handle a large volume of photos with a focus on detail.
The Photoshop Specialist will report to the Color Lab Manager and work very closely alongside multiple stakeholders, including art directors, designers and editors.
This job is based in New York.
You will:
Coordinate with art directors and designers to determine how images will be used in various layouts.
Provide ready to publish images under tight deadlines.
Flexibility and readiness to accept changes and modifications to previously completed requests.
Deliver images that reflect the high journalistic standards of the Wall Street Journal.
Match requested crop guides and file sizes with accuracy.
Keep a consistent quality across all platforms/publications.
Communicate issues and problems in a timely manner to appropriate parties.
Establish and maintaining good working relationships
You have:
At least 3-5 years of experience in retouching and color correction.
Exceptional and demonstrable knowledge of Photoshop and the Adobe Creative Suite.
A strong technical ability with Adobe pen tool, select and mask, and can quickly remove images from a background cleanly and correctly, and with active clipping paths.
Knowledge of color profiles, working in both CMYK for print, and RGB for online.
Understanding of all aspects and variables of image prep for press and digital usage.
A keen sense of the adjustments an image needs to print well on newsprint (i.e. decreasing red hue from faces, opening shadows, sharpening)
Knowledge of how to use and build editable adjustment layers within a PSD
A rich portfolio reflecting work experience with images from various mediums.
Strong communication skills
Experience with Agfa Arkitex Intellitune software is beneficial, but not required.
