Dow Jones Audience Interaction Producer in United States

Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is looking for an audience interaction producer to help us build community and create multimedia audience conversations on and off platform.

We're looking for someone with a deep understanding of news and consumption habits and audience behavior on social channels, as well as experience in reaching the audience where they are. You will focus on bringing our audience into our programming and community-building, expanding our reach to new audiences, and creating and implementing engagement and audience growth strategies.

You should have experience working across media and social platforms. You should care deeply about journalism as well as giving the public and our members a voice. The Journal seeks to be an industry leader in how we engage with our audience and in featuring audience points of view. This is an opportunity to be involved in something with high levels of out-of-the-box thinking and to train and inspire people around the newsroom to be a part of it. In addition to helping develop and run audience interaction experiences, you will produce content alongside newsroom reporters, when appropriate.

We're looking for someone who is comfortable moderating comments as well as deploying strategies to drive deeper engagement with members. This might take the form of reader profiles for a newsletter, developing new audience networks or creating content from audience submissions. You will maintain the highest levels of quality in our online commenting and other audience interaction forums such as the Reader Feedback Form.

You should be comfortable interacting directly with our audience as a representative of The Wall Street Journal. You will make editorial decisions on featuring the most thoughtful audience contributions, help editors and reporters develop prompts, find relevant reader questions, tips and story ideas, and produce innovative content from these experiences.

Flexibility around work schedules is very helpful. You will regularly work evenings and weekends because we have to be responsive and active online when our audience is online, which includes weekends.

We can be flexible on location within the U.S., including the option to work remotely. You will report to the Deputy Editor of the Audience Voices team, which is a small group embedded in the Journal’s digital experience and strategy unit (DXS).

You Will:

  • Use superb judgment in moderating audience comments.

  • Help surface reader submissions and tips that are relevant to reporters and editors.

  • Create new ways to integrate audio and video from our audiences into our journalism.

  • Develop best practices to promote positive behavior and encourage reader participation.

  • Help develop and execute strategies to build communities and reach new audiences.

You Have:

  • Excellent audience engagement skills.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • An interest and some experience in reporting and storytelling.

  • The highest commitment to The Wall Street Journal’s standards.

  • General awareness of how a newsroom works and others’ roles and responsibilities.

  • Comfort with audience data.

  • The ability to take something from concept to completion.

  • The ability to work under minimal direction to identify and resolve problems.

  • Experience with high-volume commenting platforms is preferred.

  • Familiarity with news and online communities is preferred.
